In this belated slowpoke review, I will tell you about a mechanical mod from RCM called SHUTTLE.
Hello! If for some reason you were in a coma for a whole year or have only recently plunged into the wonderful world of vaping, this review was made especially for you.
The mechanical mod SHUTTLE (CHELNOK) is the brainchild of a stern and at the same time cheerful genius and his team called Russian Custom Mods. Before the release of the “Chelnok”, the guys showed off two mods with simple names RCM and RCM v2. Both devices were well received by people who are “in the know”, gave birth to a small and close-knit fandom and are still giving heat in the literal sense. Personally, I can’t say anything about them, because they somehow passed me by, I held them in my hands a couple of times and nothing more. vape store online canada But I will gladly share my opinion about the third version.
The mod is sold in a shockproof and relatively waterproof plastic case. It seems to me that this is a great marketing move, and the practicality of use in various scenarios is simply off the charts. On the top cover there is a sticker with the name of the mod and the inscription “in association with VaporPlase”. The “juiciest” thing is that the guys did not get any association, but there were tons of good trolling, pouring bad words on each other and a strong PR out of nowhere. At the moment, only three and a half oldfags fully remember all the details, and therefore I will not delve into the maelstrom of history.
What’s in the box
RCM SHUTTLE mechanical mod. Without this item, the existence of the kit is completely meaningless. So no comments.
Spare spring with insulator. An additional accessory of dubious value. It would be more appropriate to put a spare contact group, which is subject to wear more than the practically eternal spring, which is not involved in the circuit anyway, and an insulator, which does not wear out by definition. What caused such a “fit of generosity” is absolutely incomprehensible to me, I admit that they simply made several times fewer mods than springs, and so that the latter did not take up space in the workshop, they were added to the kit.
SHUTTLE. Design
The appearance of the RCM SHUTTLE mechanical mod pleases the eye with its ergonomic shape, even despite the decent external diameter of 27 millimeters, holding it in your hand is a pleasure, the groove greatly contributes to this, especially for people with the habit of holding the mod with a “lower grip”. There are no inscriptions, decorative grooves or other design delights here. Simple and brutal, but tenacious and does not slip even in sweaty palms.
At the top of the mod there is a hybrid 510 connector, around it in a recess, slightly preventing excessive sticking of the evaporator to the mod, the name of the device and the serial number are applied. The transition chamfer ends with a diameter of 24 mm, everything that is larger will hang over the edge, but evaporators from 20 to 24 mm in diameter will stand quite organically, especially those matching the color of the mod itself.
At the bottom, a brass button is visible, it has a gas outlet hole and an RCM engraving. The button is always recessed into the case by about 1 millimeter, and therefore it is absolutely not necessary to lock it.
By simply unscrewing the bottom cover, the mod is disassembled into three parts: the case, the shuttle and the cover itself. When replacing batteries, you should pay a little more attention than usual, the shuttle has
I have already written about the “shuttle” several times, and behind this word there is an interesting unit, brass with silver plating on one side and plastic on the other. The diameter of this part is 21 millimeters and it is designed to close the circuit when the button is pressed.
Having disassembled the “shuttle”, you can find: a base that “contacts” the plus or minus of the battery. Preferably with the minus, to avoid an unexpected short circuit with damaged insulation. The second half of the contact group is separated from the first by a spring and an insulator. The spring is also covered with a layer of paint. The usefulness of this is questionable, but at least it will not rust, although the paint will still begin to fall off over time (see the right photo above). The entire structure is held together by a plastic cap on a threaded connection with a hole through which the positive pin of the evaporator rests against the upper element of the contact group.
SHUTTLE. Personal impressions
What I liked
Appearance and comfortable grip
Silver-plated pads on both sides of the battery and constant contact
The button does not heat up. Never!
High-quality paint
Transport packaging
What is simply good
Fit for 24 millimeters
Hybrid connector
Innovative design
All threads except the 510 connector do not participate in the current transmission circuit
Adjustment of the button stroke depth
What could be better
RCM SHUTTLE mechanical mod – comparison with a competitor
A lot of “extra” parts (just look how many of them are in the Spanner mod (on the left) and how many in the Shuttle (on the right)
Manual (and very tedious) adjustment to the evaporator
Stable auto-fires or misfires with incorrect button adjustment
The “shuttle” regularly falls out when replacing the battery
The button pusher is recessed into the body
A scanty delivery set
Not the slightest damage to the insulation on the batteries is allowed
Problems with custom insulation on the batteries are possible (the can simply will not fit and the lower “glass”
Total
The SHUTTLE mechanical mod is good in every way, except for the overly complex button design. It “fries” wonderfully, fits perfectly in the hand, has minimal drawdowns, but is extremely “hemorrhoidal” in maintenance. If you are not embarrassed by the long process of adjusting the button for each evaporator, you are ready to put up with periodic autofires and misfires – this mod can become one of your favorites.
